Yembo started as a crazy idea by 2 AI engineers. But every pioneering innovation starts with a question. The question my co-founder and I had was, "Why do moving companies have to visit someone's home when almost everyone has a smartphone in their pocket?" It's time consuming, inefficient, and expensive to visit someone's home, just to give them an estimate. My co-founder Zach knew this because his wife used to be a moving company coordinator. There had to be a better way. And of course there was. AI-powered virtual home surveys would be faster, better, and more convenient. For the moving company and their customers. And so the 2 of us started on this adventure called Yembo. From our humble beginnings in the moving industry, to bringing our best-in-class AI product to the insurance industry - we're just getting started on our mission to drive digital transformation to home service companies. ### ### About You We're looking for an experienced backend engineer to work on the latest and greatest features for our moving product. Our moving product is growing rapidly and continuing to take market share in the industry. Our AI technology has analyzed over 1.4 million customer videos and our platform is used globally. But there’s a lot more we want to do for our customers, and we are looking for talented and collaborative engineers to make it happen. You will be part of a tight-knit cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, and customer success managers. Not only will you implement new features and expand on existing ones, you will collaborate on the overall product direction and roadmap. You will also be involved in our integration efforts, ensuring Yembo’s revolutionary AI technology plays nicely with our customers' existing software applications. You will contribute to an open-source Development Center that allows our APIs to be accessible to other developers. You will be interacting with our internal engineers and sometimes external technical teams to make sure the integration's business objectives are achieved. This role is perfect for you if: - You are technically strong in PHP, MongoDB, and AWS (EKS, EC2, S3, Cloudfront, Route 53). You have a deep understanding of design patterns and engineering best practices. - You have strong communication skills and can work autonomously in a cross-functional team. - You are able to work with outside vendors and external technical teams effectively. - You are able to architect routes, collections, and other backend considerations needed for new feature development. You are able to spot potential issues and come up with solutions. - You write viable, reliable, and scalable code that is readable and easy to maintain. - You are able to jump into an existing code base and build on existing features without regressions. - You are proactive and take great pride in your work. You frequently go above and beyond what's requested, and you expect your colleagues to do the same (we do). ### ### Responsibilities - Collaborate with the product engineering lead, customer success lead, and other engineers on new features for our moving product. - Design and develop backend work for potential new features. This includes architecting new routes, database structures, and design patterns for backend functionality. - Improve and build on existing features. You will become an expert in our codebase. - Spearhead integration initiatives. Iterate on existing APIs as needed to adapt to current customer needs. - Manage overall design, development, testing, and rollout of backend work. Be able to adapt and iterate on work as needed. - Review other backend engineers' PRs and collaborate on best practices. Requirements - BS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent work experience - Tech stack experience in: - PHP (expert) - MongoDB (advanced) - AWS: EKS, EC2, S3, Cloudfront, Route 53 (advanced) - Full time availability (i.e. 40 hours a week) - We are a remote company and have engineers spanning both coasts. The position requires working during US business hours. - Occasional but infrequent travel - Legally authorized to work in the US (sorry, we’re unable to sponsor for this role at this time) ### ### Bonus - Frontend experience in Javascript or React (familiarity) - Prior experience with new product development - Prior technical integration experience - Prior management experience ### Outcomes Once you join Yembo, here's how you can expect to make a direct impact: In your first 1 month, you'll: - Gain familiarity with our workflow, tech stack and tools. Ramp up on existing product features and solutions. - Meet with the key members of the engineering team so you are familiar with who is responsible for the main products at Yembo. - Complete a small backend project and understand code that relates to it. - Have your first code on production. In your first 3 months, you'll: - Begin collaborating with the product team on new product features. Be able to complete Jira tickets for product work in a specific area of our code base. - Collaborate with our frontend engineers, remote engineers and QA team to present a functional, tested solution. Proactively unblock each other as needed. - You should be 70% autonomous in your onboarding. Your PRs should pass our coding standards and be able to be approved within a few days. - Join existing integration meetings.
